Alex Syrup is a combination medication used to treat dry cough. It also relieves nasal congestion or stuffiness.Alex Syrup 100 mL contains three medications: chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine and dextromethorphan. Chlorpheniramine works by inhibiting the action of histamine, a substance that causes allergic reactions. Phenylephrine helps to shrink the blood vessels in the nasal passage, which helps to relieve stuffiness. Dextromethorphan works by preventing nerve signals from being sent from the cough centre in the brain to the muscles that cause coughing. It all works together to alleviate dry cough.
