Metoprolol is a beta-blocker that acts by inhibiting the release of epinephrine, a hormone that raises heart rate and blood pressure. As a result, inhibiting epinephrine activity might result in a drop in heart rate and blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic or water pill that works by flushing the body of excess water and salt. It aids in the reduction of fluid collection and swelling or edema.
