Phenytoin, an ingredient in Eptoin 300 ER Tablets, is a member of the class of medications known as anti-epileptic drugs. When undergoing or following brain surgery or suffering a serious head injury, it is used to treat some types of epilepsy. At least two unprovoked seizures with or without a fit a forceful, uncontrollable contraction of voluntary muscles occurring at least 24 hours apart are required to diagnose epilepsy. The electroencephalogram (EEG) may be used to identify abnormalities in electrical activity, which are indicative of a seizure, which is caused by an excessive discharge of certain nerve cells. Trigeminal neuralgia is also treated with Eptoin 300 ER Tablets.
