Halotop F Cream is a topical antibiotic that is used to treat bacterial skin infections such as eczema and dermatitis. It is made up of two medications: Halobetasol (corticosteroid) and Fusidic acid (antibiotic). Halobetasol is a topical corticosteroid with a high potency that inhibits the formation of prostaglandins (chemical messengers), causing the afflicted region to become red, swollen, and itching. It relieves the itching and inflammation produced by eczema (inflamed and itchy skin) and psoriasis (skin cells stack up and form scales, resulting in itchy, dry spots). Fusidic acid, on the other hand, is an antibiotic that inhibits the production of key proteins required by bacteria to perform crucial tasks. It is used to treat infections such as dermatitis (skin inflammation), spots, scrapes, grazes, impetigo (a weeping, crusty, and swollen area of skin), and folliculitis (inflammation of one or more follicles).
