Lasix Injection belongs to a class of drugs known as diuretics. It is used as an emergency treatment for very high blood pressure (hypertensive crisis) because it immediately lowers blood pressure. It also reduces swelling (edoema) caused by excess water in the body quickly.

Lasix Injection helps your body get rid of excess water and salt in your urine. It is usually used to treat people who have excessive fluid retention due to heart failure, liver or kidney disease. Under the supervision of a doctor, it is injected into a vein. Following the administration of this medication, your doctor may monitor your blood pressure.

How it works-

This injection contains frusemide which is a loop diuretic. It works by preventing the reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the proximal and distal tubules and in the thick ascending loop of Henle by inhibiting the sodium chloride cotransport system. As a result, it promotes diuresis (urine secretion) by increasing the secretion of water along with sodium, chloride, magnesium and calcium.
